  1. Registrar’s Report: Jan Wassink presented the ILR financial update for the past month and year-to-date. Jan also presented an update of the projects being completed for the building.
    1. Jan discussed the options for renewal of the ARI contract. He asked permission to attend the ARI meeting in February 2003. Motion. Art Kennel. Grant permission for Jan to attend the ARI meeting in February 2003. Second. Sally Taylor. 4 Ayes.
    2. Jan explained the One Suite telephone calling card. He will send printed information on the calling plan to each member of the BOD and we will discuss it later.
  2. Consultation with Darrell Anderson. At 12:30 PM EST, Jan introduced Darrell Anderson to the ILR BOD. Darrell is a llama owner and is currently the Chief Executive Officer of the National Swine Registry. He has served on the Board of Directors for the National Pedigreed Livestock Council and was the President of the Board for the last two years of his term. The ILR BOD invited Darrell to join our call to share his experiences in consolidating three major hog registries. The history and process of bringing these registries together was very enlightening. All of the registries involved have reaped major benefits as a result of this consolidation. It was helpful for the ILR BOD to hear how successful the effort was and, in planning for the future, to see how ILR might be able to provide service to other registries using a similar cooperative philosophy. Darrell stressed the importance of long range planning. He said it was probably the most important tool used by the National Swine Registry to bring them to the level of success they enjoy today.
  3. Finance Committee: Karen Baum reported that the membership dues referendum passed. 71% of the votes were in favor of the dues structure and 29% opposed. There was discussion about how to report the results of the vote to the membership. Jan suggested a press release to make this announcement and to send membership applications.
  4. Strategic Planning: Art Kennel presented his ideas for the long term planning for the ILR. He reviewed a document he sent to each member of the BOD after the last teleconference call. He asked for input from each member of the BOD for their vision for the ILR for short and long-term goals.
  5. Public Education: Art reported on the progress of updating the educational brochures originally produced by ILA. Bill Franklin offered to write a new brochure on guard llamas for ILR. Norm Evans will rewrite the Llama Medical Management brochure since Murray Fowler thinks it needs to be revised and he will not be available for several months due to travel. Work is on going for the brochures that need to be updated. Art asked for suggested authors to do the "Llama Fiber" brochure which needs to be rewritten.
  6. Government Relations: Karen reported that the press release was sent out and posted on the ILR web site.
  7. Maxxam Contract: Motion: Sally Taylor. Approve the most recent revision of the Maxxam contract as revised by ILR attorney and reviewed by Maxxam. Second: Art Kennel. 4 Ayes. Jan will prepare a special news report to cover the new DNA procedures. This bulletin will be mailed to all llama owners and will explain how the new sampling will simplify the DNA procedure. It was suggested that November 1, 2002 would be a target date to start using Maxxam Lab services provided they are ready to receive our samples.
  8. ILR Directory: The ILR membership directory is now available to anyone who requests a copy. Each copy is printed "upon request" and is current as of the day it is printed. The cost of the directory is $35.00. Sally Taylor will write a short article for the next ILReport about the directory.
  9. Breed Divisions: There was brief discussion about divisions for different types of llamas within ILR. This topic will be explored further at a later meeting.

Meeting adjourned at 3:17 PM, EDT.

Respectfully submitted,
Sally Taylor
Secretary
