September 27, 2000
12:00 EDT

Present: Kathi McKinney, Karen Baum, Jack Moore, Sally Taylor, Sally Rucker and Jan Wassink

  1. Approval of Minutes
Minutes approved by FAX on Sept 1, 2000
  2. Next meeting will be October 25 at noon EST.
  3. August Cash Flow Report
August cash flow report presented by Jan and reviewed by BOD.
  4. 'I Want A Llama!' Booklet
The I Want a Llama booklet was advertised in "Small Farm Today" and the office is getting requests for copies from the ad. Jan is planning more promotional campaigns for the booklet to increase demand for the booklet. Sally Rucker will look into costs of several advertising options.
  5. ILR Publication
Discussion of ILR publication tabled until next meeting.
  6. Registrar Performance Evaluation
BOD will do evaluation of Jan’s performance within the next two months.
  7. Advanced Reproductive Technology Policy
Wording for this rule will be worked out by Jan and presented for discussion during the Policy Book update.
  8. Wither Heights
We have had requests for the addition of wither heights to the certificate. ILR office will begin accepting and recording wither height on animals over three years of age. Wither height will be recorded in the office computers. New certificates showing wither height will be available for the cost of reissue for those owners wishing to have new certificates.
  9. Policy Book 2000
Jan will begin the process of revising the Policy Book and will send rough drafts to members of the BOD for further revision. First draft will be completed before next month’s call with the goal of having the final draft finished by the first of the year.
  10. ILReport 2000
    The ILReport has been mailed.
  11. Bar Coding for DNA Analysis
The Veterinary Genetics Lab at UC Davis is insisting ILR go to a bar code system for DNA testing. While ILR could look for another provider for the DNA testing service we still must rely on the stored freezer samples for comparison in some cases. Jan will look into the costs of producing bar codes and the expense of mailing the bar codes to owners for submission to UC Davis. If there is any possibility of keeping the cost of DNA testing at the current fee we want to do it but it might be necessary to raise the fee to cover the costs of the bar coding and extra mailing expenses.

Meeting adjourned at 12:57 MDT

Respectfully submitted,
Sally Taylor, Secretary
